They apply to all outdoor pools (in-ground, semi-inground, and above-ground) that can hold 60 cm of water or more.<\/p><p>For pools installed after November 1, 2010, compliance is required right now. Non-compliant installations can result in fines of $500 to $1,000 per day.<\/p><p>For pools installed before November 1, 2010, a transition period existed. The original deadline of September 30, 2025 was extended by two years. The new compliance deadline is September 30, 2027. After that date, no exceptions apply. Every residential pool in Quebec, regardless of when it was built, must be fully compliant.<\/p><p>What this means in practice: if your current fence is wood, has gaps wider than 10 cm, stands below 1.2 m, lacks a self-latching gate, or has any climbable element, it will need to be replaced or modified before September 2027.<\/p><p>Why not wait until the last minute: fence contractors in the greater Montreal area are already anticipating significant backlogs as the deadline approaches.
